Day 41, Thursday, July 9, 2026: One small step for man, one giant leap for garden-kind.
It was another hot, summer day out here in West Kelowna. P and Y were out to start taking out the existing middle step of the patio stairs along the garden path. They pulled out the rectangular top stones easily enough, as well as the supporting blocks. However, they quickly came across a critical decision around pulling around some of the existing Allan blocks from the base of the step they were adjusting or not. Eventually P decided that he would regret leaving the new steps looking wonky and so P and Y proceeded to dig these ancient blocks out. Next they placed the new angled rocks as a foundation, and after leveling, P placed them in firmly. In the meantime, D went to Home Depot to procure another round of these blocks. By the afternoon shift, we were well stocked again, and D and P glued on the replacement step’s outer layer above the foundation. This would rest for 48 hours.
In the evening, P moved on to firming up the bridge’s upper landing while D and Y dug out the path area between the patio and steps next to the Upper Pond. They had to be careful with the depth as a few inches revealed the yellow caution tape that K had put in as a marker for the top of our electrical cable and pipe trench! Tomorrow and day after, we will continue to build out the path on the upper end to complete our loop. Not too long now…
