Day 42, Friday, July 10, 2026: Gravelly (s)tones..
It was a rather short garden work day for us on Friday. P, D and Y were outside this hot day, trying to wrap up some of the long overdue tasks. P and D focused on prepping the upper path and Bridge landing. They glued the top layer of the boundary rocks onto the base and then proceeded to level off, and add gravel to the South West side of the path next to the gate, as well as the landing. They glued these as we wanted to have a stable, non-shifting set of rocks along the more traversed areas. They also spent filling in the bottom two patio steps and adding some gravel there so we could place some of our slate rocks, to continue the path. Finally, onto the path by the Upper Pond that D and Y had dug up the previous day, P and D added gravel and levelled it off as well. Now we were ready to put in the rocks over the weekend, and the last two days we realistically have for this first phase of the garden. Y put in a few of the plants that had been in the waiting area for several weeks, including Hens & Chicks for contrast in front of one of the large rocks we had placed behind the top waterfall stack. She also added Creeping Sunshine in a nook behind these rocks, with plenty of space available to service the East side of the Upper Pond. Finally, she planted the three decent looking Mosses, New Zealand Moss, Scotch Moss and Irish Moss in the little planting patches we had created next to the Bridge stairs. We are going to be wrapping up the work in the next two days, so we’ll share some bigger updates over the weekend!
