Day 35, Friday, July 3, 2026: Bridge Stairs Under Way…
The crew was greeted by a really warm Friday morning! But, they had things to do and places to be, so they cracked on. P picked up yesterday’s stair building. P2 and D continued to clear out more of the dead tree remains and roots, as well as dug a slightly larger hole above the bottom pond area. Y watered the plants, took Marsh Marigold out of the quarantine and into the upper Bog Filter, and then briefly helped P settle some of the pavers.
Around mid-morning, E and Y went out to Bylands to get the Weeping Cherry tree we’d all been talking about, as well as some more Oat Grass to line the upper pond. The tree turned out to be quite tall. A fortuitous drop of the water bottle inside the rear of the truck positioned E really well to help gently cajole our tall tree diagonally into the back of the truck. Needless to say, we had a rather calm drive back home!
After getting back, Y worked on the unpleasant task of cutting out all the flowers from our two flowering shrubs since they weren’t doing so well in the heat. This was our Hail Mary after multiple attempts to keep the soil around the two shrubs moist with multiple waterings in the day. P in the meantime worked through most of the afternoon, under the blazing sun to continue building out the foundation of the stairs connecting the bridge to the lower path.
Early evening, we all decided to head over to Home Depot to buy yet more rocks for the landings and steps around the bridge. We had a photographer this time, the fifth time we’ve picked up these rocks from Home Depot, and were able to include a snapshot of what goes on in these loading and unloading sessions! We called it an early day to get some respite from the heat. We hope to plant more trees and grasses tomorrow if the weather Gods are kind.
