Day 31, Monday, June 29, 2026: The Thymes they are a-creepin’..
Monday morning began all clear but still. The crew was out for the morning shift, busy with different tasks. P prepped the sifted dirt and spread it over the recently laid patches 3 and 4 of the path. Y went about watering the plants. P2 was busy with pruning the area near the top of the lower waterfall, where we have been clearing out space to add in a weeping cherry tree. Following the dusting of the rocks along the path, P taught Y how to firmly push in the dirt around each and every rock on the newer path sections while taking care to not displace the rocks. While P went off to work at 9, Y continued and wrapped up the process of firmly establishing the rocks in section 4 of the path.
Afterwards, Y checked in on the quarantined Mare’s Tail plants, and seeing no sign of fairy fern, placed them one each into the ponds. She then minutely examined the second corkscrew rush to remove traces of the fairy fern from roots, top and all other surfaces to put it in a fresh quarantine for observation. D was headed to pick some cherries from the cherry tree and Y accompanied him to gather the harvest.
The crew outside took a breakfast break. Following the break, E and Y sat down to plant our very first batch of a variety of ground cover, mainly varieties of creeping thyme in the first two segments of the completed path. D and P2 worked on clearing out some more of the brush by the bird bath, as well as laying down more of a foundation for a retaining wall for the terraces being planned by the East end of where the bridge would sit. Tomorrow, the bridge is coming over!
