Day 1, Saturday, May 30th 2026: The Kickoff!
We began our first full day at Bosky Acres with a full tour of the property by taking in the earthy aroma of the herbs in the outdoor patio, dreaming up the tastes of all the delicious fruits that the newly planted fruit trees will bear and feasting on the heady scent of the brilliantly colored melange of summer blooms. We also captured a rough plan and visualized how our 3D plans from the trial version of the landscaping software we used would take shape as a real garden. After completing our tour of the upgraded tool shed and the rehabilitated winery, we took a break to sample some delicious strawberry crepes.
We started our garden project around 11:30 am. P and D marked out the rough path and key structural elements using a combination of long cables and wooden logs and planks, while Y helped by pretending to be the water pool next to the umbrella depicting the size of the Japanese Maple we plan to bring in.

After walking mama E through the rough plan and getting her blessing, the rest of us started by relocating the 15 or so lavender plants to the newly identified spot for the future Mediterranean garden in the garden plot that housed the rhubarbs.

Next came the hard work of pulling out the paved rectangular stones, stakes and small rocks. This venture was not for the faint of heart, aka Y, as many a Black widows and snails had to be taken care of in the process, after due consultation with mama E of course!

P gingerly but effectively rescued the mommy Black Widow from the clutches of an almost certain and squishy demise and freed us all from the venomous bites. As the day went on, despite small hitches such as the project coordinators, P and D, not clearly specifying which shed Y, who was volunteering as the stone-shift laborer, should place the back-breaking stones at, the group made great progress by 6pm when the day’s work was paused for the day. A first for the day was that Y used a wheel barrow for the first time! The party ended the day with a healthy Mediterranean meal.
