Day 8, Saturday, June 6, 2026: The cavalry is here!
It was the start of the weekend and we planned to get a lot done the next couple days. We started around 9 am by capturing the measurements to assess whether our pump could handle the waterfalls we were envisioning in our two ponds, and whether the pipe we had bought would fit the trench adequately, and the best placement for the skimmer box.

Next up, we decided to install the new wire fence to protect our little saplings from being chewed up by our deer friends. We started by pounding the posts in from the Southern end of the property towards the existing temporary fence. This took the crew some time thanks to the terrain and unwieldy roll of the wire fence, but we eventually got there!

Post-lunch, we showed all the changes we made around the garden area to mama E when some much awaited guests arrived. We were very pleased to see K and T join us this afternoon!

Within an hour of arrival, K whipped out the big guns, aka laser leveler and helped us figure out the right height for the skimmer box, the position for the electrical wiring relative to the big pond overflow, and where to plug in to the power for the pump we were going to install. This ratcheted up the pace of the day a notch as we were positioning one of the main components of the waterfall now with K’s expertise on hand despite the intermittent thunder and showers! After bidding goodbye to T, the group had an early dinner (thanks again mama E), and D was so excited that he took P and K to a Home Depot afterwards to buy some more supplies, with plans to do more digging after their return. The crew decided to not go out and called it a day, with a promise to start really early tomorrow. We’re getting closer to getting the pumps going!
