History

In the beginning…

After WWII, returning veterans had the option to purchase parcels of land for farming under a law passed by Parliament in 1942, the Veterans’ Land Act. In 1954, George and Nan took possession of 12 acres of land in Lakeview Heights. They cleared the parcel of rocks, pine trees and rattlesnakes (!!) and planted 11 of the 12 acres in tree fruits: apples, pears, cherries and prune plums. They and their three children moved into the house they had built in 1963.

The years went by, the offspring grew up and moved away, and upon George’s retirement the one-acre homesite was severed and the rest of the property sold. Fast forward to 2004, when members of the second generation of family bought it from Nan, and established what is now Bosky Acre.
